3rd Step of IVF Treatment: Embryo Transfer (ET) Following oocyte pick-up, the oocytes are collected and microinjection is done with selected sperms and the embryos are formed. In the laboratory, embryos are followed for 3-5 days. This follow-up depends on the number and quality of embryos. The 5th day embryo is usually the best quality embryo, blastocyst stage embryo. However, when the embryo number is restricted, embryo transfer might be done on the second or third day follıwing oocyte pick-up. Embryo transfer procedure is done under normal gynecologic examination position. It takes about 5-10 minutes. It is an easy procedure. The bladder should be full to visualize the placement of embryo into the uterus. Embryo is placed through the vagina into the uterine cavity with a very thin catheter. After 10-12 days following embryo transfer blood pregnancy test is done to see whether the embryo implanted into the uterus, that is, the pregnancy occured.
